The Vetting Commission heard Judges Valeriu Curicheru and Olga Bejenari from the specialized anti-corruption panels

Today, Panel G of the Judicial Vetting Commission heard Judges Valeriu Curicheru and Olga Bejenari of the Chișinău Court as part of the external evaluation procedure. The two judges are being evaluated in connection with their judicial activity within the specialized panels responsible for examining corruption and corruption-related cases.

In the case of Judge Valeriu Curicheru, the hearing concerned an ethical integrity matter related to potential conflicts of interest. The Panel examined several cases in which one of the parties was represented by a lawyer known to the judge and requested clarification regarding the nature of their relationship and the steps the judge was required to take to avoid or disclose any potential conflict of interest.

Judge Bejenari’s hearing addressed both financial and ethical integrity matters, including possible unjustified wealth identified for the period 2014–2017 and potential breaches of ethical standards related to the issuance of a judicial ruling.

In both hearings, certain matters were examined in closed session at the judges’ request, in order to protect the identities of the persons concerned and sensitive information.

As the procedure continues, the Panel will prepare a report for each judge setting out its findings and recommendation on whether the judge should pass or fail the evaluation. The reports will be submitted to the Superior Council of Magistracy.

Tomorrow, 18 September, Panel F will hear Judge Viorelia Grigoraș of the Chișinău Court, who serves on the specialized anti-corruption panels.
