On 15 September, the Judicial Vetting Commission held new public hearings as part of the process of verifying the integrity of judges and candidates for positions in judicial self-administration bodies.
During today’s hearings, three cases were examined:
* Judge Dorina Croitor, from the Strășeni District Court, was invited to a hearing to be evaluated in her capacity as former acting deputy president and later deputy president of the court by mandate. The procedure was conducted in accordance with Law No. 252/2023, which establishes the integrity criteria applicable to judges. Following the review, the Commission did not identify any concerns regarding the judge’s financial or ethical integrity. During the hearing, Judge Croitor confirmed the accuracy of the information provided throughout the evaluation.
* Lawyer Denis Lesnic, candidate for the position of member of the Board for the Selection and Evaluation of Judges, was heard under Law No. 26/2022. The Commission’s questions concerned the possible existence of unjustified assets for the periods 2010–2011 and 2023–2024, as well as aspects related to the activity of his law office and travel expenses associated with it.
* Judge Angela Bostan (Central Court of Appeal) was heard as part of a re-evaluation procedure ordered by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM). She answered questions from the Commission members concerning the issues indicated in the SCM decision requiring her re-evaluation. The Commission’s questions focused on the sources of financing for the purchase of two cars and an apartment.
On Tuesday, 16 September, the Judicial Vetting Commission will continue the hearings with the examination of a new re-evaluation case and the repeated hearing of a judge from the Southern Court of Appeal, assigned to the full Commission after the initial panel failed to reach consensus.
Full recordings of the hearings will be available within three days on the Commission’s official website www.vettingmd.eu and on its YouTube channel, in both Romanian and English.
