The Judicial Vetting Commission announces the expansion of its composition following the appointment of three new members by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova during its session on 10 July 2025.
Following the parliamentary vote, the following experts were appointed as members of the Commission:
• Gerrit-Marc Sprenger, an international expert with experience in assessing judicial systems, including as an observer in the vetting process of judges and prosecutors in Albania;
• Marcel van de Wetering, a jurist from the Kingdom of the Netherlands with over 30 years of professional experience in the justice sector;
• Iulian Rusu, former State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and former Director of the National Anticorruption Center, with extensive expertise in the legal field and institutional integrity.
The mandate of the newly appointed members falls within the responsibilities of the Judicial Vetting Commission and consists of assessing the ethical and financial integrity of certain categories of judges and candidates for judicial office.
According to recent legislative amendments, the Judicial Vetting Commission is composed of nine members, appointed by Parliament with a three-fifths majority vote of the elected deputies. Five of these members are nominated by the Republic of Moldova’s international development partners.
