Ion Covalciuc withdraws from the competition for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice

Prosecutor Ion Covalciuc, a candidate for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, has withdrawn from the competition, and the Judicial Vetting Commission has taken note of his decision. The withdrawal request was submitted both to the Commission and to the Superior Council of Magistracy.

The withdrawal occurred at the stage of the public hearing, after the candidate received a notification regarding certain integrity-related aspects that were to be addressed during the hearing.

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 65/2023, under which Ion Covalciuc was undergoing evaluation, the Commission merely records a candidate’s withdrawal and does not issue a decision, ruling, or report in this regard.
