Judicial inspector Diana Ioniță has informed the Judicial Vetting Commission and the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) of her decision to withdraw from the competition for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice. As a result, the Commission will not continue the reevaluation procedure in her case, unless the SCM rejects her withdrawal request.
The decision to withdraw was announced after the candidate had been invited to a new round of hearings before the Commission, as part of the reevaluation procedure.
Context
In the initial evaluation, Diana Ioniță did not pass the Commission’s assessment. Subsequently, the Commission’s report was reviewed by the Superior Council of Magistracy, which rejected its conclusions and ordered a re-evaluation.
At present, the Judicial Vetting Commission is conducting seven re-evaluation procedures, two of which have reached the stage of public hearings. These hearings are scheduled to take place at the beginning of next week.
