The deadline for submitting initial documents as part of the external evaluation has expired for court presidents, vice presidents, and acting officials who held these positions for at least one year within the past five years. The Judicial Vetting Commission announces that, out of the 24 notified court leaders, 14 submitted the Five-Year Declaration and the Ethics Questionnaire within the legally prescribed deadline. Completing these documents is mandatory for the continuation of the evaluation process.
On 2 May 2025, the Commission notified this category of judges about the initiation of financial and ethical integrity assessments, in accordance with Law 252/2023. The legal deadline for submitting the required documentation was 20 days. Following the review of all correspondence, it was established that 14 judges complied with the procedural requirements by submitting the requested documents and will continue with the evaluation process. The upcoming phase of the evaluation involves the collection of relevant data, including accessing pertinent information systems, requesting data from public institutions and private entities and analyzing petitions, provided they are specific, relevant, and sufficiently substantiated to warrant verification.
In accordance with Law No. 252/2023, the Commission will assess the integrity of judges through two panels, each consisting of three members. The Judicial Vetting Commission may also use the information received from the Commission established under Law 26/2022, concerning the selection of candidates for self-governing bodies of judges and prosecutors.
